On its 15th year in service and dedication to give back to the Filipino people, the Philippine Nurses Association- Metropolitan DC Area, USA arrived last January 28, 2017 with over fifty "Balikbayans'' who are all ready to take part in the Medical-Surgical Mission on January 30-February 4, 2017 at Caraga Regional Hospital.
Coordinated by our very own Secretary of Health and Ms. Alice Andam, the team arrived with high hopes to get things done and reach out to the community.
The team arrived and was initially welcomed by the Libarnes family in Cabadbaran City followed by the province of Surigao del Norte at Surigao del Norte Provincial Hospital with Vice Governor Arturo Carlos Egay.
The said mission will cater simple and specific cases in surgery (e.g. TAHBSO, herniorrhaphy), medical consultations, pediatric consultations, and dental extractions and assistance.
The "Balikbayans" will assist the retained hospital together with doctors from Cagayan de Oro City and Davao City who volunteered to extend their services.
"Giving back is the essence of our service", stressed by the current PNA-MDC Area President, Joy Arellano.
DOH-ROXIII is grateful for the undying support of the international community to our countrymen.
An initial count of 300/day patients were catered since January 30, 2017 in the ongoing Medical-Surgical Mission at Caraga Regional Hospital.
A team headed by Assistant Regional Director Cesar Cassion went to check on the developments of the mission as well as the preparation for the arrival of the Secretary of Health.
In the area, the doctors from Cagayan de Oro City and Davao City conducted minor to major surgeries and consultations and were assisted by the PNA-Metropolitan DC Area Team.
Dr. Virgie Condez and the executive staff from the Office of the Secretary-Davao also witnessed the ongoing pandemonium of the area and saw the extent of service rendered by the mission.
The mission is said to end on the 4th of February with the hopes to cater more than their target for all the specified medical and surgical services.
